Adult Orthodontics in North Dallas

Congratulations! You’ve decided to wear orthodontic braces in order to enjoy the aesthetic and health benefits of a straight smile. Dr. Greer and his team know that this is no small decision for an adult. There is time and a financial commitment involved, so we respect your decision and we think you’ll be happy with the results.

It’s really true—braces aren’t only for kids anymore. As a matter of fact, some 25 percent of all orthodontic patients are adults. If you have healthy gums and a strong bone structure underneath, then tooth alignment can effectively and safely be changed at any age.

Wearing braces as an adult can dramatically enhance your personal appearance, your confidence and your self-esteem. Of course, improving the condition of your teeth and gums is just as important. Research shows that crooked teeth and malocclusion (a bad bite) can be contributing factors to tooth decay; gum disease and possible bone loss; abnormal wear of tooth enamel; and the often painful symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorder, or TMJ.

Dale W. Greer, D.D.S. Inc. offers two types of orthodontic treatment systems: traditional braces and clear aligners in Dallas.

Traditional Braces

Traditional braces are probably the type that more people are familiar with. Fortunately, metal braces today are much smaller and more comfortable and attractive than those of decades past. Traditional braces are comprised of metal brackets constructed out of high-grade stainless steel. These are cemented to the facial side of your teeth along both the upper and lower arches. Brackets have slots that hold a thin archwire in place. This archwire is what puts pressure on your teeth in order to move them into proper alignment. Elastic bands, also called o-rings or donuts, keep the wire securely attached to the brackets.

On your molars, Dr. Greer attaches metal rings that keep each archwire anchored. The brackets, wires and bands work in conjunction to move your teeth forward or back, up or down, or side-to-side to give you the straight smile you’ve always wanted.

Clear Aligners in Dallas

Some patients want the benefits of orthodontic treatment without the appearance, because they feel traditional braces might impact their professional or personal life. If this is you, then Dr. Greer also offers clear aligners. Dr. Greer controls the entire treatment process with clear aligners right here in our Dallas dental office. From planning the movement of your teeth, to the fabrication of aligners, to monitoring your progress while you are wearing your clear braces—everything happens under Dr. Greer’s watchful eye.
